Database Maintenance
1. Backing Up the Database
Like any important document or file on your computer, you should be sure to regularly save a copy of the Learner Profile database to another storage device, such as a Zip disk, CD-R, or backup file server. Having a backup helps minimize the chances that important information is lost.
To make a backup of the database, select BACKUP DATABASE from the Admin menu. You will be prompted to choose a folder in which to store the backed-up database. If you are saving the database to removable media or a server, be sure that you have mounted the storage volume before you choose BACKUP DATABASE.
2. Optimizing the Database
Optimizing the database helps keep it small and efficient by getting rid of files that are marked for deletion and reindexing the files that remain.
Before optimizing the database, you should always make a back up of the database that you can revert to if necessary.
To optimize the database, simply choose OPTIMIZE DATABASE from the Admin menu. Once completed, a message should inform you that the optimization was successful.
3. Scheduling Database Maintenance
You may choose to have Learner Profile remind you to back up and optimize the database after a period of time has passed. By default, the administrator will see this message every seven days if the database has not been backed up and optimized in that span of time.
To change the setting, choose SET REMINDERS from the Admin menu. Enter the period of time you want to pass before the program displays an alert message to backup or optimize the database. Click OK to save your changes.
NOTE: Only users who log in with administrator permissions will be alerted to backup or optimize the database.
